Everyone learns to snowboard at their own pace, and our kids’ snowboarding lessons are no different. Our fully qualified team of instructors ensures that each child in our 7-11-year-old group experiences a fun and friendly atmosphere in which to learn to snowboard at a rate perfect for them. These snowboard lessons are packed with action, and we have a lesson stage to suit everyone, from complete beginners to experienced young boarders looking to hone their skills or refresh their snow legs.
In this introductory stage, they will learn all about their equipment and slope etiquette, taking their first steps into the world of Snowboarding. We’ll introduce them to one-footed skills, develop their balance on the board and heel-edge slide slipping.
Building on their first introduction to the slope, they will seek to improve their basic skills, including standing and balancing on the board, performing a heel-edge side slip and toe-edge side slip without assistance and stopping when required.
This stage will enable them to make a toe-edge and heel-edge diagonal side slip to the left and right without assistance, and to start steering their board steeper down the slope and back.
The final stage in the beginner learning stage, by the end of this lesson, they should be able to turn from toe edge to heel edge and vice versa, and consistently make basic turns using the full length of the lesson area, in control.
The development stage is all about building on what they have learned so far and introducing them to the Main Slope. They should understand Main Slope safety and etiquette, be able to use the button lift without assistance, and link their turns by travelling diagonally in between.
This stage will teach them to perform linked turns and stop when required, maintain their balance, and understand how to safely slow down on steeper terrain, while also being able to snowboard safely from the top of the Main Slope.
The final lesson stage teaches them to vary their turn shape and size to match the terrain while maintaining constant control, develop their posture and range of movement on their board and ride with more flow.
For development coaching, they should be comfortable on the Main Slope and want to develop their skills further. Coaches will guide them through multiple sessions, providing them with the tools to improve their snowboarding skills. Whether that be posture, types of steering, varied turn shapes, riding switch, or landing tricks, flatland or features, enjoy becoming a more accomplished, all-around rider.

These lessons are entirely tailored to their needs, allowing them to dictate the flow and direction of the lesson. Warm clothing is essential for your Snowboard lessons, especially in cold conditions. Wrapping up warm will allow you to enjoy your lesson fully. Wear warm, waterproof clothing and warm socks. All of which can be hired or purchased if you don’t have your own. The rest of your equipment, your snowboard, boots and helmet, all of which are compulsory, are included in your lesson fee. Gloves are compulsory and can be purchased either online when booking, or at the centre, or bring your own.
Aim to arrive 45 minutes to an hour before the start time of your lesson to allow ample time for preparation. Upon arrival, please have your booking reference available (you can find this on your booking confirmation email). You can collect your tickets from the Guest Services desk or the self-service ticket machines situated near reception. If your booking confirmation has a QR code, you can scan it at the self-service machines to check in.
Our facilities include changing cubicles, accessible changing facilities, and lockers available to store your belongings, which accept a £1 coin or a locker token. These are returnable.
The number of lessons needed for a child to feel confident snowboarding without instruction will vary depending on the child's age, ability level, and how quickly they can pick up new skills. Typically, it will take around six lessons for your child to feel confident with the fundamentals and have the confidence to tackle Main Slope on a junior lift pass.
During junior lessons, a parent/guardian is required to remain on-site and be in sight of the lesson (where reasonably possible) at all times. This is in case the instructor needs to signal a parent/guardian to come down to attend to their child. Parents/guardians are not allowed to be on the snow with their child, but should be up in the Lodge viewing gallery or adjoining balcony.
We start our kids' group snowboard lessons at seven years old because we believe that this is the youngest age a child can competently and physically learn to snowboard as part of a group lesson. Whilst we do allow children as young as three to undertake one-to-one private snowboard lessons, starting at seven in a group of kids at a similar ability allows them to develop and grow enough to get a grasp of the mechanics needed to snowboard.
We ensure that all our instructors have undertaken a DBS check and completed a child protection module, as well as all the relevant instructor licence requirements, to keep your children safe out on the snow.
If your child has any specific learning needs, please inform the instructor at the start of the lesson so they can make any necessary adjustments. For any significant needs your child may have, we recommend contacting Disability Snowsports UK initially, as they offer subsidised lessons to help your child get started before participating in The Snow Centre's group lessons.
Our snowboard lessons for 7-11-year-olds will typically last for one hour whilst they progress through stages one to six. Once they reach the snowboard development coaching sessions after Stage 6, the lessons will be one hour and thirty minutes long.
