Kids’ Ski Lessons: Hemel Hempstead

Warm clothing is essential for kids’ ski lessons, especially in cold conditions. Children must wear warm, waterproof clothing and warm socks, all of which can be hired or purchased if you don’t have your own. Other equipment includes skis, boots, and a helmet, all of which are compulsory and included in your lesson fee. Gloves are compulsory and can be purchased online when booking, at the centre, or brought from home.

Aim to arrive 45 minutes to an hour before your child’s lesson start time to allow ample time for preparation. Upon arrival, please have your booking reference available (you can find this on your booking confirmation email). You can collect your tickets from the Guest Services desk or the self-service ticket machines situated near reception. If your booking confirmation has a QR code, you can scan it at the self-service machines to check in.

Our facilities include changing cubicles, accessible changing facilities, and lockers for storing your belongings, which accept a £1 coin or a locker token. These are returnable.

Whilst the answer will always vary depending on natural ability and the age of the children participating, it will generally take around six lessons for your child to ski confidently without an instructor.  

During junior lessons, a parent/guardian is required to remain on-site and be in sight of the lesson (where reasonably possible) at all times. This is in case the instructor needs to signal a parent/guardian to come down to attend to their child. Parents/guardians are not allowed on the snow with their child, but may be in the Lodge viewing gallery or adjoining balcony.

The youngest age your child can start learning to ski at The Snow Centre is three. Our ski lessons start at four; however, you can book a private ski lesson with your three-year-old to give them their first taste of the exhilarating world of skiing!

Yes, private ski lessons are the perfect way to introduce your child to the world of skiing. Beginners will thrive in the personalised environment of a one-on-one private lesson with one of our expert instructors. Whilst group lessons are beneficial for learning as a group of children at similar levels, a private lesson offers unmatched personalisation to suit their needs.

If your child has any specific learning needs, please inform the instructor at the start of the lesson so they can make any necessary adjustments. For any significant needs your child may have, we recommend contacting Disability Snowsports UK initially, as they offer subsidised lessons to help your child get started before participating in The Snow Centre's group lessons, ensuring they get the most out of their lessons.

Private lessons are great for giving your child one-to-one attention from their instructor, leading to more personalised feedback and instruction. Group lessons, however, allow them to learn alongside other skiers and share the fun of the experience together.
