The snow Centre

Yes, private ski lessons are the perfect way to introduce your child to the world of skiing. Beginners will thrive in the personalised environment of a one-on-one private lesson with one of our expert instructors. Whilst group lessons are beneficial for learning as a group of children at similar levels, a private lesson offers unmatched personalisation to suit their needs.

Yes, private ski lessons are highly recommended for those looking to begin their skiing journey and would like the opportunity to work one-on-one with our qualified instructors. A private ski lesson is the perfect way to pick up skills quickly and ensure that no bad habits slip into your skiing form.

Yes. The beauty of our indoor ski centres is that we make snow sports accessible to everyone. Snowboarding down our Main Slope is a thrill that can only be done justice in person, so whether you’ve never seen a snowboard before, have learnt the basics, or are already used to the mountain slopes, you can always learn new skills here at The Snow Centre.

General Information

For an adult to learn to ski confidently without instructors, it generally takes around six lessons.

Unless your child meets the minimum slope standards, they will not be allowed to ski without lessons. To get the most out of their skiing, it’s essential to take a few lessons to pick up the basics before heading to the mountains. This makes it more fun but also makes skiing safer for them and others on the slope.

To ensure a safe skiing experience at The Snow Centre, we have a minimum slope standard for anyone using the Main Slope with a Lift Pass. All recreational users of Main Slope must meet the following minimum standards:

  • Be able to control and link turns.
  • Be able to control speed and direction.
  • Be able to stop safely.
  • Be comfortable with variable piste conditions.
  • Be competent in using a drag lift

The Beginner slope is reserved for instructor-led lessons only and is not open to the general public for use outside of an official lesson. This is to ensure the safety of our guests and team while learning.

No, we don’t make snow while the slope is open to guests, so your children will be fine to ski down the Main Slope without needing to wear ski goggles. Other safety equipment, such as helmets, is required and will be included in your lesson fee; alternatively, you can bring your own equipment.

No, kids do not need to know how to snowboard to join a beginner snowboard camp at The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead. Each of the camps is broken up into different classes, with the Beginner group catering to the early stages of our kids' snowboard lessons and the Green class designed for boarders at a Stage 2 standard. Blue class is intended for those at Stage 3 or 4, and the Red class is for juniors capable of riding from the top of the Main Slope.

With our expert instructors, you can learn to ski more advanced techniques, applying all that you have learnt in your beginner ski lessons and intermediate ski lessons and adding in some new skills.

Simply select the lesson that you and up to 5 additional guests want – Beginner Slope or Main Slope – at a date and time to suit you all. Once you have selected these, you will be asked if you would like to add additional guests, and you can enter how many you would like.

Yes, although our adult snowboard lessons and kids snowboard lessons provide an excellent way to learn how to snowboard alongside fellow boarders all at the same level, a private lesson allows for you to learn in a one-on-one environment with our instructors able to correct any mistakes and behaviours and tailor the lessons to your needs. This focused tuition often means you will make progress more quickly than in a group setting.

Absolutely, there is no better time to learn to ski than as a child. This period of their life is when they are at their most perceptive, able to pick up skills and techniques at a faster rate, and skiing at The Snow Centre enables them to enjoy a fun activity in the snow. We focus on short, fun sessions at this age because young children haven’t developed enough, physically, to cope with longer lessons, and the fun element helps them to learn and absorb the information.

All our instructors have undertaken a DBS check and completed a child protection module, as well as all the relevant instructor licence requirements. If your child has any specific learning needs, please inform the instructor at the start of the lesson so they can make any necessary adjustments.

For any significant needs your child may have, we recommend contacting Disability Snowsports UK or Snowbility, who work closely with The Snow Centre, offering specialist ski lessons for anyone with additional needs or disabilities.
