Skiing is expensive. Often, the expense seems even higher for first-time skiers due to the cost of skis and other necessary equipment. However, the high cost of skiing sometimes brands it as a sport exclusive to the upper-class elite or dedicated sports enthusiasts. Here at The Snow Centre, we aim to dispel this preconceived notion and demonstrate that skiing is genuinely for everyone. In this blog, we explore why skiing can be so expensive and offer tips on how to avoid the added cost of this sport.

Why is Skiing So Expensive?

To understand why skiing is considered expensive, we need to examine the sources of these costs. One of the main reasons is the equipment: you need to buy or rent skis, boots, goggles, safety gear, as well as appropriate clothing for skiing through the mountains. You also have to factor in travel and accommodation. Then there’s the cost of purchasing ski passes to the actual slopes. For beginners, you might also need to consider the cost of ski lessons or ski school.

That’s a lot of expense, right? So, what can you do to minimise the cost of skiing? This is where The Snow Centre comes in.

Is Skiing Expensive at The Snow Centre?

At both of The Snow Centre locations, we have strived to ensure that skiing is accessible to everyone, because we believe that all children and adults deserve the chance to enjoy every sport. That’s why we offer ski lessons at Manchester and Hemel Hempstead and snowboarding lessons at Manchester and Hemel at competitive prices, making us a more affordable alternative to travelling abroad for a ski holiday. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to ski without worrying too much about the cost, we tailor ski and snowboarding lessons according to ability. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a regular on the slope, we can cater for each individual and arrange the most suitable training or development package. You can take lessons or enjoy the slopes at either of our real snow locations - The Snow Centre Manchester or Hemel Hempstead - making it even easier to find a location convenient to you.

How Much Does Ski Equipment Cost at The Snow Centre?

We also help keep costs down by including skis or snowboards in the price of all our lessons through the clothing and equipment hire at our Manchester and Hemel locations. This means you don’t need to worry about any additional equipment or hire fees - simply focus on enjoying your time on the snow. All prices also include boot hire for ski or snowboard lessons, but if you already have your own boots and prefer to use them, you’re more than welcome to bring them along. Gloves are mandatory on the slopes and can be purchased directly from us if you do not have your own.
