Skiing any time of the year is fun, but Easter is something different! Easter skiing is magical because the air is warmer and the sun is brighter, but the snow is still just as crisp. If you’re heading on a skiing trip to Europe, then Easter is the perfect time to do it. If you’re wondering where to ski at Easter, then The Snow Centre has all the ski resorts you need.
What makes skiing at Easter so unique?
The first thing that jumps out about skiing at Easter is the weather. Signifying the end of winter and the beginning of spring, the air is a lot warmer, even with snow still in the mountains. Throughout winter, you’ll have braved sub-zero temperatures while slaloming down the slopes. However, at Easter, the temperature can creep to above zero.
Surprisingly, plenty of Easter ski resorts are quiet too. You would think that with schools on a break for half term, there would be a mass influx of people on their holidays. However, the Easter season can generally be quieter than most ski seasons. So it could be the perfect time for you to perfect your skills.
Also, a little Easter skiing tip from The Snow Centre: the snow is softer once the sun is out. So you should try to find the sweet spots before the snow gets too soft. Follow the sun around the ski resort and save the west-facing snow until last. You can truly get the best snow all day long this way.
Where to ski at Easter
So, where should you ski at Easter then? We’ve looked at some of the best ski resorts around Europe and think that you should consider taking the whole family to one (or all!) of the three below:
- Tignes and Val d’Isère
- Val Thorens
- Verbier
Tignes and Val d’Isère
Head to the beautiful Tignes and Val d’Isère ski resorts in France to experience stunning scenery and incredible skiing. The skiing area at Tignes and Val d’Isère reaches 3,456m at the top of La Grande Motte glacier in the Espace Killy ski area.
It gives you around 300km of high-altitude slopes and fantastic glacier skiing. There are plenty of practice lifts and natural links at this particular ski resort. A large children’s area is also here, so it’s perfect for the whole family.
Plus, it stays open until early May. So there’s plenty of time to get there for Easter.
Val Thorens
Another incredible major ski resort in France is Val Thorens. At Easter, this place is truly magical. Sitting at 2,300m above sea level with a lift reaching 3,200m, there is so much snow to enjoy here. Plus, there are many green runs across the Three Valleys ski area with plenty of savings on lift passes if you travel with children.
There are magic carpet lifts and beginner slopes if you travel with your little ones. There’s also an indoor fun park with bouncy inflatables, swimming pools and trampolines. There are even ski-in and ski-out apartments at the resort, allowing you to come and go as you please.
Meanwhile, if you want to head higher up the mountain and try more challenging runs, the hotel offers childcare. This can give you and your partner extra time to hit the slopes!
Verbier
Verbier, in Switzerland, is another wonderful ski resort to visit during Easter. With an altitude of 3,330m, the scenery is something to behold. Admire the scenery while cross-country skiing, and you can also go sledging on trails, tobogganing, and ice karting on a Daytona-style track.
This particular ski resort in Switzerland is ideal for taking the kids to as well because it has an ice rink, pool, and slopes for them to enjoy.
