If you’re somewhere near your forties and thinking about starting out in skiing, you may well be wondering whether you’re having a midlife crisis. Trust us; you’re not! A recent study shows that skiers in the age bracket of 45–64 are taking regular skiing holidays, so your timing is perfect! If you’re thinking about making this year the one for starting out skiing, find out below why learning to ski as an adult can be as much fun (and just as easy!) as it is for children.
Can You Learn to Ski at Any Age?
The short answer is yes. When we look at a middle-aged adult’s ability to learn any new skill and compare this ability with that of young adults (>12 years), there are very few differences. We are equally well-suited cognitively and physically as youngsters. The most significant difference between starting out skiing as a teenager and learning to ski as an adult is the fear of falling. Children have the inevitable feeling of invincibility; in adults, that fear of falling is the key obstacle that holds us back. So, you are totally capable of learning to ski at 40, you just have to approach it like you would have done when you were young and fearless!
