  • Skiing and snowboarding at The Snow Centre.

Scotland Ski Resorts

If you’re looking to experience the feeling of the Alps, then the Scottish Highlands are your best bet for some skiing and snowboarding action high up in the Highlands. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy all that the UK has to offer, and with the unpredictable weather, some ski resorts are able to remain open as late as mid-spring.

Cairngorm Mountain

The epicentre of skiing in Scotland, the Cairngorm Mountain, offers ski and snowboarding lessons introducing budding boarders and skiers to the thrills of snowsports. Whether you’re learning to ski in their ski school or enjoying flying down the mountain slopes, the Cairngorm Mountains offer an authentic ski resort experience.

Glenshee

Glenshee is one of the most popular ski resorts in Scotland, offering up 25 miles of downhill runs across four mountains. It has 36 runs and a great variety of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities to enjoy. Avid skiers and boarders can enjoy wide-open pistes, jumps, a natural half-pipe, and a slalom race track.

The ski centre is open seven days a week through the mid-December to April ski season and operates Wednesday to Sunday outside of ski season.

Lecht

Nestled in the Eastern Cairngorms, Lecht stands just over 2,000 feet above sea level and provides a great ski resort for beginners. Although it is one of Scotland's smaller resorts for snowboarding or skiing, it's less busy than some of the larger ones, allowing for more on-slope action. Located in the heart of Scotland's most breathtaking natural scenery, there's plenty to appreciate about this smaller ski resort.

The ski season at Lecht typically begins in mid-December and ends in mid-April, though these are not definitive and may be earlier or later depending on the conditions. Their cafe remains open all year round, serving hot food and drink from 9am to 4pm.

Glencoe Mountain Resort

A mountain range that not only offers up unbelievable skiing and snowboarding but also some of the UK’s best nature walks. The Glencoe Mountain resort comes alive in the winter, offering 20 incredible skiing and snowboarding runs, all varying in difficulty, catering for enthusiasts of all levels. The natural terrain creates some challenging runs for even the most experienced skiers and boarders, while the plateau runs are perfect for beginners.

Home to the longest and steepest runs in the UK, there's no better place for skiing in Scotland. Much like the other ski resorts we have mentioned, Glencoe's ski season is typically from mid-December to April, but it is weather-dependent.

Dry Slopes

Experience outdoor skiing all year round on one of the many dry slopes located across the UK. You don’t need snow to go skiing or snowboarding; with an artificial dry slope that mimics real snow, you can get the same experience a lot closer to home and at your convenience.

Chatham Snowports Centre, Kent

With a 200-metre-long dry slope, Chatham Snowsports Centre offers outdoor skiing and snowboarding all year round. Guests of all abilities can experience the thrill of racing down the slope. They also offer tobogganing down a 700-metre-long winding track that is the longest in the UK and snowtubing down an 80-metre track.

Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Edinburgh

Located in a picturesque setting amongst the beautiful Pentland Hills Regional Park, Midlothian Snowsports Centre provides the longest dry slope in Britain, coming in at 400 metres in length. This dry slope offers a riding experience that is as close as you can get to real snow. It’s so close in fact, that the Team GB skiing team uses the slopes to train.

Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre, Gloucester

Home to a 255 metre slope, Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre provides an authentic dry slope experience for skiers and boarders of all ability levels. In addition to their slope, they also offer a Snowflex covered side slope designed for freestyle use.

If you want to learn more about dry slopes, be sure to check out our guide detailing all you need to know about dry slope skiing and snowboarding.

Indoor Ski Centres

Finally, we have indoor ski centres. These facilities combine the best of mountain resorts and dry slopes, being more accessible than ski resorts while also offering real snow skiing, something dry slopes cannot do. Indoor ski centres offer authentic skiing experiences, making them the ideal place to develop techniques and gain hands-on experience with skiing and snowboarding on real snow.

Snowdome, Tamworth

Located in Tamworth, Snowdome is home to a 170 metre main slope and two shorter teaching slopes at 30 metres and 25 metres respectively. Budding skiers and snowboarders can learn to ski through their Snow Academy, and anyone looking to further their career in snowsports can take their BASI Level One instructor course at the venue.

The Snow Centre, Manchester & Hemel Hempstead

We would be remiss without mentioning our locations. The Snow Centre Manchester and Hemel Hempstead are home to facilities that cater to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities and ages. The Snow Centre Manchester has the longest indoor real snow slope in the UK, measuring 180 metres in length. The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead has a Main Slope measuring 160 metres. Both of our locations make the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard.

Through our partnership with Disability Snowsports UK, we can provide adaptive ski lessons at Manchester and Hemel, as well as adaptive snowboard lessons at either Manchester or Hemel
