Why Choose Andorra?
Andorra is, as we have mentioned previously, a tiny country with the ski resorts grouped in the mountain range. Unlike some of the best ski resorts in Europe, the three resorts in Andorra are all just a day trip away from each other. What Andorra may lack in quantity is certainly made up for in quality.
As well as having a handful of high-quality ski resorts all within close proximity, Andorra is also a much cheaper destination when compared to other resorts across the Alps, including flights, accommodation and après ski.
- Ski resorts are mostly grouped together.
- A cheaper alternative to the more expensive Alpine resorts.
The Best Andorra Ski Resorts
Grandvalira
The largest skiing resort in Andorra, Grandvalira, offers seven interconnected sectors, with the highest vertical drop being 1,112 metres. The resort is covered by 139 pistes providing plenty of opportunity to get your skiing fix. The pistes cater to a wide array of skill levels, from beginner runs right up to expert runs.
Grandvalira is also the perfect resort for families, offering dedicated nursery areas, ski schools and themed children's circuits.
Arinsal
Arinsal is a beginner-friendly ski resort located at the end of a valley in Southern Andorra. The 63km skiing area is lined with red and blue runs perfect for beginner to intermediate skiers. Famed for its family-friendly facilities, Arinsal provides a wide selection of runs with a maximum vertical drop of 1,010 metres.
Pas de la Casa
The highest ski resort in Andorra, Pas de la Casa, reaches 2,100 metres. Located at the Northern tip of Andorra, on the border with France, the resort has a distinctly French feel to it. Whilst the snow lasts a long time due to the height of the resort, there are snow cannons that ensure more than 65% of the 210km ski area is covered in a blanket of snow.
The ski season can last a long time at this altitude, allowing the resort to remain open typically until the end of April.
The Best Time to Ski Andorra
Due to Andorra's ski resorts being at high altitudes up in the Pyrenees mountains, they can typically remain open until late spring. The Andorra ski season kicks off in December, with the best ski conditions in Andorra being in January and February.
March and April provide milder weather and longer days, making for ideal spring skiing conditions. The wide choice of Andorra ski slopes makes the destination a hot spot for skiers looking to enjoy a quieter ski holiday compared to some of the best ski resorts in France and Switzerland.
